The Attendant Angels - Chora Dome - Istanbul - Back in Stock for Fall 2024
Very limited edition back for Fall ‘24
The Chora Church is one of the most remarkable remnants of the Byzantine Empire in the world. This medieval Greek Orthodox church has an interesting history. Beautifully endowed with frescos and mosaics in the 1300’s, it was later converted to a mosque during the Ottoman era.
Most of the frescoes and mosaics were then hidden beneath layers of plaster and paint. Only in 1948 did the work begin to clean and restore all the original art which had been covered over and protected for centuries. The church is now a museum. The attendant angels surround the virgin and child in this most beautiful parecclesion dome.
